Recovery Hike

Looking for a way to get back on track after the holidays? Maybe you missed the first day of the year to start your resolution. No need to worry, we have you covered. The Recovery Hike at Starr’s Cave is the perfect way to start the year. Hiking is a great way to get moving and can be done year-round. The hike will be led by a naturalist and will meet at the Starr’s Cave Nature Center on January 2nd at 2:30pm.

This hike is also great for simply getting outside and exploring the park during the wintertime. Please dress for the weather and look at the Starr’s Cave Nature Center Facebook page for event changes and cancellations or call Starr’s Cave Nature Center at (319)753-5808.

DMCC Ladies Adventure Group New Years Hike

Ladies Adventure Group: New Year's Hike. Ladies 18+, join us at Starr's Cave from 3:30 to 4:30 pm for a refreshing winter hike. This is a free event; simply bring yourselves and appropriate apparel for the weather. We encourage you to come enjoy good company and the great outdoors on Tuesday, January 6th.

Eagle Watch

On Saturday, January 24th, the annual Eagle Watch program, hosted by Des Moines County Conservation, will take place. This event will begin at the Port of Burlington at 10:00 AM with an updated eagle presentation from last year. After the presentation, please join us to observe real, live eagles and learn new facts. Participants will drive their own vehicles to Lock and Dam 18, a scenic viewing location about 15 minutes away. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, though a limited number will be available to borrow. The program concludes at noon.
This program is free and open to all ages. Registration is encouraged but not necessary.
