Shed Hunting

Join us for a Shed Hunting Program on Tuesday, March 17th, at Leopold Recreation Area from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Explore the fascinating world of shed antlers and join us for a hike to search for these natural treasures!

Male deer shed their antlers every year, and now is the peak time to find them! This family-friendly event is open to participants of all ages. Registration is required. Register here! Milk Jug Mini Greenhouse Workshop

Calling all gardeners! Join us for an exciting workshop on creating your very own mini greenhouse using a milk jug. This hands-on program will teach you how to reuse common household materials to start seeds, protect seedlings, and extend the gardening season. Participants will learn basic winter sowing and seed-starting techniques while building their own milk jug greenhouse to take home.
This program is $5 per person, and pre-registration is required. Register here!

Insect Study & Pinning

On March 20th, come to Starr’s Cave and discover the fascinating world of insects. At this hands-on program for ages 14+, you will learn about insects’ anatomy, ecology, and look at native insects under a microscope. To finish, participants take home their own pinned & framed insect!
We will begin by discussing insect body structures and how they relate to their roles in ecosystems — from their unique adaptations to their specialized exoskeletons.
Next in “Insects Under a Microscope,” participants will get an up-close look at insect bodies & details not visible to the naked eye.
Lastly, during “Pinning insects” we’ll learn how scientists preserve specimens and participants will leave with their own pinned and framed insect!
Throughout this program we’ll connect insect’s biology to ecology and examine how insects contribute to pollination, decomposition, and biodiversity. Join us to explore how insects directly shape the health and balance of our natural world!Have you ever wondered how entomologists create insect displays? Join us on March 20th and create your own framed and preserved insect! Examine their fascinating anatomy under a microscope and learn the vital role they play in our environment.

Space is limited to 12 people. The cost of this event is $15. Ages 14+
