Invasive Species Removal Day

Join us for a rewarding afternoon at Starr’s Cave Park & Preserve on Thursday, November 13th, from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. as we come together for a Trail Clean Up and Brush Pile Burn. This family-friendly event is open to participants of all ages, offering a fun and active way to contribute to the preservation of our beautiful park while connecting with fellow nature lovers.
Our main tasks for the day include cleaning up the trail and tackling invasive species, with a focus on removing the notorious Bush Honeysuckle that threatens the park’s ecosystem. For those who love a good bonfire, we’ll also try burning a huge pile of invasive species that we've previously gathered (if weather permits), making this event not only about maintenance but also about restoration and renewal of the natural landscape.
Please remember to come prepared! We recommend bringing gloves if you have them to assist with the removal of brush, along with water, weather-appropriate clothing, and sunglasses for eye protection. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get some fresh air, exercise, and a sense of accomplishment by helping preserve our local trails.
Should the weather turn unfavorable, the event will be canceled, but we’re hoping for clear skies and good company. HHU Deer Gun Range Day

Hook & Hunt University participants are invited to join us for a Deer Season Range Day at the Big Hollow Shooting Complex! This exclusive event is open to HHU mentors and mentees as part of our ongoing hunting preparation and skill development series.

We’ll be using the 50-yard and 100-yard ranges to help hunters fine-tune their accuracy and confidence before deer season begins. Bring your deer gun, ammunition, and range gear, and our team will assist with sighting in, practice rounds, and safe range techniques.

Targets will be provided, and experienced mentors will be on-site to help with sight adjustments and marksmanship fundamentals.

This event is a great way to connect with your mentor or mentee, get hands-on practice, and ensure you’re ready for deer season success.

DMCC Ladies Adventure Group Campfire Creations

Ladies 18 and older—join the Ladies Adventure Group for a night of fire and flavor on Wednesday, November 19th from 5:30–7:00 PM located at Starrs Cave Nature Center
Learn the art of fire building in a fun and relaxed setting as we gather together to build a large campfire. Then, break into smaller groups to practice starting fires using traditional flint and steel techniques. Once we’ve sparked our own flames, we’ll come together to make s’mores and cook up delicious pie iron pizzas over the fire. It’s the perfect mix of learning, laughter, and tasty campfire treats!
Cost: $10 per person — pre-registration required. All equipment is provided.
Limited to 20 ladies — register early to reserve your spot!

Trivia Night

Ready to show off your trivia skills? Join us for Trivia Night on Friday, December 5th at Starr’s Cave Nature Center!

Gather your team of 2–6 and put your knowledge to the test in a night full of laughs, friendly competition, and fun surprises.
Doors open at 6 PM and trivia starts at 6:30 PM.
Cost is $20 and pre registration is required.
Bring extra cash if you’d like to purchase mulligans.


We’ll be set up inside on the 3rd floor (with both an elevator and a ramp for easy access).
Bring your friends, your best guesses, and your game face — prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams!
