Get ready to explore the wild side! Join us on Thursday, April 2nd, from 5:00–6:30 PM for a guided Wildflower Hike at Starr's Cave Nature Center. We’ll meet at the shelter house before heading out on an adventure to discover the edible (and not-so-edible!) plants growing all around us.
During this hands-on hike, you’ll learn how to safely identify common spring wildflowers, common wild edibles, hear fun facts about their uses, and gain a deeper appreciation for the natural world right at your feet. Whether you're a curious beginner or just love being outdoors, this program is a great way to connect with nature in a whole new way.
This is a free event. No registration is required, but it is highly encouraged. Register here.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water. Come ready to walk, learn, and maybe even see your surroundings a little differently!

Ladies 18+, get ready to uncover nature’s hidden treasures! On Tuesday, April 7th, from 5:00–6:30 PM, join our Ladies Adventure Group for a guided Wildflower Hike at Starr's Cave Nature Center. We’ll gather at the shelter house before setting off to explore the spring plants growing all around us.
This women-only adventure is a perfect mix of outdoor fun, learning, and connection. You’ll discover how to identify common spring wildflowers, common spring edible plants, hear fascinating tidbits about their uses, and experience the forest in a whole new way. It’s a chance to stretch your legs, spark your curiosity, and share the adventure with other like-minded ladies.

April is Donate Life Month, and we invite YOU to join us for the Donate Life Run on Saturday, April 11th, in support of the Iowa Donor Network and Des Moines County Conservation!

Join us for a full day of outdoor adventure, exploration, and connection with other amazing women! This co-hosted event will bring together ladies for hiking, paddling, fishing, and time to explore two beautiful nature areas.
We’ll start the day with introductions, followed by a guided hike at Crinoid Cavern and time to explore the Nature Center. After that, we’ll head to Big Hollow Recreation Area for lunch, a short hike, and an afternoon of paddling and fishing.
This is a great opportunity to try new outdoor activities, meet new friends, and enjoy nature in a supportive and fun environment. No experience is necessary—just come ready for adventure!
Cost: $10 per participant. Space is limited to 10 individuals, so registration is required. Register here!
