In the right locations, the Roadside Management Department plants native prairies within the right of way. These plantings do many things when established:
- Provide competition against weeds and brush
- Provide excellent soil stabilization and enhance ground water quality
- Are low maintenance
- Provide some habitat for wildlife
- Are aesthetically pleasing
Roadside prairies are scattered throughout the county, but some of the better locations include:
- Geode State Park - east side of dam
- South Prairie Grove Road - about 2 miles North of race tracks
- Irish Ridge Road - Along Starr's Cave Preserve
- Golf Course Road
