Invasive Species Removal Day

Join us for a rewarding afternoon at Starr’s Cave Park & Preserve on Thursday, November 13th, from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. as we come together for a Trail Clean Up and Brush Pile Burn. This family-friendly event is open to participants of all ages, offering a fun and active way to contribute to the preservation of our beautiful park while connecting with fellow nature lovers.
Our main tasks for the day include cleaning up the trail and tackling invasive species, with a focus on removing the notorious Bush Honeysuckle that threatens the park’s ecosystem. For those who love a good bonfire, we’ll also try burning a huge pile of invasive species that we've previously gathered (if weather permits), making this event not only about maintenance but also about restoration and renewal of the natural landscape.
Please remember to come prepared! We recommend bringing gloves if you have them to assist with the removal of brush, along with water, weather-appropriate clothing, and sunglasses for eye protection. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get some fresh air, exercise, and a sense of accomplishment by helping preserve our local trails.
Should the weather turn unfavorable, the event will be canceled, but we’re hoping for clear skies and good company. HHU Deer Gun Range Day

Hook & Hunt University participants are invited to join us for a Deer Season Range Day at the Big Hollow Shooting Complex! This exclusive event is open to HHU mentors and mentees as part of our ongoing hunting preparation and skill development series.

We’ll be using the 50-yard and 100-yard ranges to help hunters fine-tune their accuracy and confidence before deer season begins. Bring your deer gun, ammunition, and range gear, and our team will assist with sighting in, practice rounds, and safe range techniques.

Targets will be provided, and experienced mentors will be on-site to help with sight adjustments and marksmanship fundamentals.

This event is a great way to connect with your mentor or mentee, get hands-on practice, and ensure you’re ready for deer season success.

Ugly Sweater 5K

Get ready to embrace the holiday spirit—ugly sweater style! Join us at Starr's Cave Nature Center for our Ugly Sweater 5K Run. The race begins at 9:00 AM, and we encourage all participants to show off their most festive and outrageous holiday sweaters while running or walking the 5K course.
