Big Hollow

With over 800 acres, Big Hollow still offers great hunting opportunities.

Hickory Bend

It's a bit of a walk to get to but that helps relieve some of the hunting pressure. This property is good for turkey and small game. The mature oak and hickory trees on this area really attract the deer.

Augusta Wildlife Area

Managed by Iowa DNR Located close to Welter Recreation Area (which also offers public hunting), the Augusta Wildlife Management Area offers a mix of timber and open fields immediately adjacent to the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant.

For Pheasants & Upland Game

Wapello Bottoms

Managed by Iowa DNR. To the north in adjacent Louisa County is some of the best public upland game hunting areas in the region. The DNR offers multiple large-acreage areas near Wapello, IA.

Huron Flats

Managed by Iowa DNR. At the far northeast end of the county, this property offers the best pheasant hunting in Des Moines County.
